Get to Know Nate Nieri
Nate Nieri, CFP® is a fee-only financial advisor and founder of Modern Money Management.
I am not your typical financial advisor. You probably won’t find me in a suit, I don’t use a lot of fancy words, and I’m not a slick salesperson. I like to surf, be outdoors, run around the house with my kids, and just happen to be a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® with a master’s degree in finance and tax planning. I’m a bit of a geek about all things money and can nerd out about everything from credit card points to macroeconomics, but I also love to just grab a drink and see what is happening in your life or talk about common hobbies - I have a lot of them.
Talking about money is very personal and I want to be the guy you can trust to get an honest answer or maybe explain the “how-to” without fear of judgment. I don’t think there is such a thing as an embarrassing question when it comes to personal finance because let’s face it, the world of money is complicated, exhausting, and confusing.
I take my fiduciary duty very seriously and believe transparency is key. If you can commit to honesty, trust, and patience, I can help you navigate a path toward freedom and success, however you define them.
Where do you call home?
I’m a California native. My wife and I have made San Diego our home. We have a growing family and I am the world’s proudest father to our two little boys.
Cats or dogs?
Dogs. We love our French bulldog, Napoleon - and yes, he lives up to his name.
What is your preferred travel destination?
My wife and I love to travel and experience different cultures. Morocco and Cambodia top my list of favorite places we have visited at this time, but there are plenty more destinations still calling our name. Exploring nature and meeting so many different and wonderful people around the world have helped shape my passion for socially responsible investing. We also love to escape to the mountains to spend quality time with family.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I’m passionate about what I do so the lines between work and pleasure are very blurred for me. I spend my free time reading about investments, interesting financial planning strategies, and taxes. Such a nerd, I know, but I love this stuff! I also enjoy surfing, gardening, agonizing about the latest home project I’m going to take on, catching a baseball game, and I have an affinity for a good gin martini.
