Five questions with Jeremy Ouchley - 04/04/2024
What makes your firm particularly qualified to serve people experiencing significant transition, such as a career change, retirement, or business sale?
A life transition can be both emotionally and financially challenging. But it can also lead to a new and rewarding chapter of life. I have spent my life counseling individuals and companies experiencing change and have lived my share of transitions. Through my journey, I have learned that a holistic financial plan lays the foundation for navigating change with success. A plan gives you the confidence to manage the uncertainty inherent in leaving behind something that has played a key role in your life, like a job, career or business. With significant experience in the sale of businesses, equity compensation, tax-smart investing and change management at large companies, I can help clients build and execute plans to meet change with confidence.
Have you had any interesting jobs prior to becoming a financial advisor?
Like many folks, I have had a range of jobs, from making pizzas to serving as the lead lawyer of a public company. I draw upon my experiences, including mistakes, to help clients achieve their financial goals in a manner consistent with their values.
What is the biggest misconception about your job?
That it is all about investments. Investment strategy is a key part of a holistic financial plan, but not the full story. Integrated, proactive planning on other topics, including taxes, employee benefits, healthcare, charitable giving and risk management (insurance), is important for success.
If you could only give one piece of financial advice, what would it be?
Understand your expenses and frequently ask whether they align with your values and goals. Whether you make $75,000 or $1,000,000 per year, understanding where your money goes is key to achieving financial balance in life. By knowing how much you spend in each category, you can critically examine whether your actions are consistent with your values and goals and, if not, change course.
I have a complicated cash value life insurance policy, private investment or annuity that I don't understand. Can you help?
Yes. We are detail-oriented and happy to analyze any of your existing policies or products to give you an objective opinion on how they should fit into your financial plan and your options for closing or liquidating them if appropriate.
